What's the worst excuse a student has given you for not having their homework?
-"We had homework?" I haven't heard too many creative excuses.
What is your most memorable moment at BHS?
-When one of my Spanish I students mispronounced "cocina" and asked me "¿Dónde está la cocaína?".
Why did you decide to become a teacher?
-It runs in my family: my grandmother, great-grandmother, dad, mom, and brothers all teach/have taught. I chose Spanish because there's a lot you can talk about: grammar, history, art, literature, celebrations, and more.
What kind of student were you in high school?
-I was a member of National Honor Society, Salutatorian of my graduating class, a Girl Scout, and first chair clarinet.
What's your ring tone?
-"If I Had a Million Dollars"
Did you, or do you have any nicknames in high school?
-I don't have any unique nicknames. Most people call me Em. In Spain, my host dad called me La Muda (the mute) because I didn't talk a lot.
What's your biggest pet peeve?
-People who don't follow instructions. You can do anything if you just follow the instructions.
Name three things you dislike.
-Peas, most country music, and rude people.
What would you do if you won the lottery?
-I'd buy property in the Caribbean where my husband grew up. That way we could visit during school vacations.
Would you rather be rich or famous?
-Rich.
What's one thing you have done that you are proud of?
-Obviously, I'm proud of my children, but I'm very proud to have finished my Masters while working full time.
Did you play any sports in high school?
-No, I'm not very athletic. I was in the band, National Honor Society, quiz bowl, future teachers of America, Zonta Club (service group), and Girl Scouts.
What kind of car did you drive in high school?
-I didn't have a car until college. Then I had a Ford Escort...exciting, huh? Not so much, but very practical.
Name three things you like to do in your spare time.
-Read, knit, spend time with my family
Do you have anything to say to current or future students?
-You can do anything in life if you put your mind to it and work hard enough. Not everybody has natural talent at everything. Sometimes you have to work at things.
