Principal's Message

Dear Wildcat Students and Parents,

Welcome to Bath Middle School!  Our team of teachers, support staff, and administrators are looking forward to an enjoyable and academically successful school year. The middle school years of education are a transitional period of growth for students physically, socially, and academically. The staff at BMS is committed to preparing students for personal and academic success when they enter the high school phase of the K-12 educational experience.
Our teaching staff continues to provide a quality educational experience and our students continue to respond with high scores when compared to schools in Allen County, the Western Buckeye League, and the twenty most comparable school districts in Ohio from the Ohio Department of Education. We have changed our “specials” rotation for the upcoming school year. Students will now rotate between art, physical education, health, and technology on a quarterly rotation each year in the middle school. This rotation will ensure that each year students are getting access to curriculum outside of core academic subjects.

During the 2023-2024 school year the middle school will continue to expand and enhance our career learning opportunities for our students. We believe the middle school years are the perfect time to begin exposing our students to different jobs and career pathways. Manufacturing facilities have begun to relax their restrictions on field trips, and we will seek opportunities to take our students out into the work force to learn about jobs and careers in the greater Lima region. Additionally, our team is looking to bring in guest speakers for each grade level to discuss local business and industry. Our seventh and eighth graders rotate between seven different career clusters to explore a variety of careers throughout the school year. We will again partner with Superior Federal Credit Union to offer financial education to our students with their Real Money Real World activity. Finally, our career education program will give eighth grade students the opportunity to design, create, market, and sell a product at our 8th Grade Business Fair in the spring.

I also want to take this time to remind parents of the importance of attendance and the impact poor attendance can have on student learning and grades. Please make a concentrated effort to get your child to school on time. I have three children of my own and I know that sickness during the school year is inevitable. Schoology is an excellent online learning platform, but it cannot replicate the learning and communication that takes place inside a classroom. Students who are habitually absent or tardy will be subject to disciplinary action defined in the student handbook.

This year staff will be placing a focus on doing things the #WildcatWay. The four most inner values of our school seal list leadership, integrity, respect, and responsibility as four essential values of our community. During the 2023-2024 school year will seek to highlight and recognize students for demonstrating those values while at school and extracurricular activities. Reinforcing these positive behaviors and celebrating student success will help us to continue to build and improve school culture. It is important to “catch kids doing something right” and recognize them for being leaders in our building.

Thank you in advance for all your help and support at home. The Bath community is one that genuinely cares about its students. Staff will work hard to continue to provide students with a quality educational experience. We want our students to enjoy school, grow academically, and continue to expand their knowledge of potential careers, service, and higher educational options as they transition into high school, and their future as productive American citizens. Please do not hesitate to contact the middle school office if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Cam Staley
